Bosch EDC17C54 — a Common Rail diesel ECU built on the Infineon TriCore core. Firmware protection combines a software calibration CRC and a cryptographic signature (RSA/CVN) over the CFG and CAL areas; after editing, these sums must be recalculated or the unit will reject the file.

Recalculation is needed after any calibration edit — Stage 1 (Golf R: 300 → 360 hp / 380 → 470 Nm), Stage 2 (с downpipe + intake — 400 hp), Stage 3 (с upgraded turbo IS38/Big — 450+ hp), Pop & Bang / Crackle map (Cupra-style burble), Launch control / Race start, Speed limiter off (250 km/h), Torque limiter delete, OPF/GPF removal (для пост-2018), DSG DQ381 software optimization, Cold start delete: the checksum no longer matches, and the ECU throws an error or refuses the firmware.
